Land of Contrasts

by Jimmie on July 19, 2006

I often say that China is a land of contrasts. Other ways of saying that would be a land of contradictions or a land of paradoxes.  Here you can see the ancient and the modern juxtaposed.  China is JUST like this:   modernizing rapidly, yet the culture is rooted firmly in very ancient traditions and beliefs.

These pictures symbolize how I visualize China — a contrast of modern and ancient.

Old style pavilion with modern, shiny, red, white and blue cars.

The same pavilion with a backdrop of towering apartmentbuildings.
