Dong Zhi or Winter Solstice has come and gone. Winter is officially here in China. 
And people are still trying to stay warm.
Here are the coal pieces that are used all over for warmth and for cooking. You can see people huddled around them and often a pot bubbling on top. You can even buy a special set of tongs made just for picking up a glowing coal “wheel.” Needless to say, these are not good for the environment or for people’s lungs! But they do provide warmth.
