I love to see a dad out with his children (or more likely child in our one child policy China).
Isn’t this picture great? A real manly man carrying a baby on his back.
Okay, the cigarette so close to the baby’s face is not a great example of responsible fatherhood, but I still like the tough but sensitive image it portrays.
BTW, probably 90% of Chinese men smoke (that’s my own personal estimate). It’s a terrible addiction here, and no one seems to care that it’s a terrible health risk! Maybe when you grow up in polluted cities, sucking on a cigarette seems normal? My guess is that in another 50-75 years, China will figure out (like the rest of the world) that smoking is BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH. In China there are no “no smoking areas.” You really can’t escape it except in your own home.

And another dad with his daughter at the park, watching people on rides.
Do you notice the squatting pose?
A totally Asian thing. Whenever there is no seat, Asians have this way of squatting with their feet flat on the ground. (When we westerners squat we’re ususally on our toes — try it.)
The girl is eating a hotdog on a stick. I find Chinese hotdogs terrible! They are sweet! And chunky – bleck! Every now and then you bite into a big hunk of gristle, fat, or bone. Disgusting. You know how people always joke about the contents of hotdogs? Well, what do you think the quality would be in a developing nation?
