Qing Ming Jie

April 5, 2007 –

Qing Ming Jie is a traditional Chinese holiday that falls in the spring. This year it is Thursday, April 5.

People go to the tombs of their family members and perform various
rituals including cleaning the grave site, placing decorations or
flowers on the grave, burning paper money or paper clothes, burning
incense, and praying to the dead.

These white paper shapes are decorations to be hung on a gravestone (something akin to placing flowers on a grave).

In this man’s backpack basket, you can see the red incense that is also sold to burn at the gravesite in anscestor worship.

He won’t be celebrating Resurrection Day on Sunday.
