Pigs’ Feet

by Jimmie on August 29, 2007

As most of you know, I’m a Southern girl. I have found that my rural upbringing has helped me to deal with life in China. For example, Southerners are known to eat strange foods such as chitterlings (intestines), chicken livers, and pickled pig’s feet.

Although I’ve never seen pickled pig’s feet here in China, I have often seen braised pig’s feet.

Because I grew up in the South where it was not unheard of to eat organ meats or “strange” parts of the pig or cow, I’ve never been disgusted by seeing these sights. To be honest, I don’t buy pig feet for my family, but we certainly have eaten these types of things with friends.

And I do love fried chicken livers and gizzards. It’s one dish that surprisingly I’ve never seen in China. So I really look forward to eating it on our visits to America! (Now you know that I really AM a “country girl.”)

What “strange” foods you are willing to admit are your favorites?

And if you’re thinking that your tastes in food are just “normal” foods,  let me remind you that  many Chinese people think cheese is quite disgusting. :-) So it’s all relative!
