Do any of you get the baking bug and spend hours on hours in the kitchen working? I did it again this morning– three loaves of wheat bread, a veggie quiche, and a chocolate pie (sprinkled with almonds). I use this oil pie crust.
But what a reward for my labor to have fresh bread to eat and one loaf in the freezer. A hearty breakfast is ready to heat and eat, and we were able to spontaneously invite a group of friends over for dessert tonight. And that’s the best reason to cook on a weekend morning — I’m prepared for evening hospitality.
By the way, the pie was not my best. In fact, if any of you had come over, I’d have been ashamed to serve it. But seeing as my friends here had never eaten pie of any kind, they were none the wiser! They loved it.

I did that a couple of weekends ago. I spent most of the afternoon/evening in the kitchen making banana bread, zucchini bread, blueberry muffins, and zucchini-raisin-walnut muffins (two batches). Several of those were chosen because of produce that needed to be used up. Then, the next day, I made chocolate chip cookies with walnuts, just because the walnuts looked so darn good going into the muffins. LOL
That’s so fun that most of your guests were getting to have pie for the first time!

My husband has been begging me to make a baked chocolate pie! Do you have a recipe to share?
Everything looks delish!

Heehee! Maybe it was something in the air yesterday. I made Zuchinni mini muffins for breaky yesterday and then made home made chicken soup and mini corn bread muffins for tea. We even had left over muffins today for breaky! Nice to have a quick home made breaky for Sunday morning.
Your pies and bread look great to me. I wouldn’t mind coming over for a visit and a peice of pie.

I love baking and would be doing it if only it wasn’t over 100 degrees outside. Over a month of those kinds of temps and you don’t feel like doing any kind of baking.
Your quiche looks delicious.

It all looks good Jimmie!! Friends that have never had pie?? Wow, I can’t imagine life without pie!! lol.
I get the baking bug quite often.. muffins, cupcakes, pies, cakes, and homemade bread. I have a bread machine, but recently discovered batter bread, and it beats the machine made hands down. I always make extras for my parents (that live right next door). One day I’ll make enough to freeze for later too!
I made a batch of mixed berry muffins yesterday (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries) and they were awesome.
Great snacks, or for breakfast, and I’m able to get some actual FRUIT into my family!!
I loooove baking!
I love baking– I get on kicks like that sometimes too. But it usually doesn’t involve a loaf of bread. More like cakes, pies, muffins, and pizza!
What a marvel you must be to your friends. I bet they think you are the exotic one!

MMMmmmm – I bet your kitchen smelled absolutely wonderful yesterday.
I enjoy getting a bulk of our baking done the weekend too. I almost made a lamb and veg. pie (but I stayed with the casserole only and we went with mashed potatoes instead) and an apple crumble.
I’ve never made a chocolate pie, so if you had a recipe, that’d be great!

The pie recipe is here. I’ll add it to the post. Thanks for the reminder. It’s basically a brownie in a crust.
I love baking, but since I’m on a no sugar/limited (whole) wheat diet right now, there isn’t much point. Actually, I don’t get to bake much anyway. That’s the drawback of teaching your kids to cook- you never get to do the fun stuff anymore.
But your baked goods look wonderful- especially the bread. And I can enjoy them without raising my blood sugar levels.
