Nature Print Paper

Not too long ago, I had my mom ship me some craft supplies I ordered online. (Thanks, Mom!) In the package was Nature Print Paper. It’s a fun and easy sunny day craft idea. Our weather is hot, hot, hot with lots of bright sun! So I pulled out the nature print paper this week.

We collected some interesting shapes from outdoors and placed them on the paper. We learned that keeping the objects flat on the paper produces the crispest outlines. So for the leaves, we placed a clear sheet of heavy plastic over it all to lightly press everything down. (The shell is on top of the plastic.)

And this is the result we got. Photosensitive paper is an interesting addition to your nature studies. We’ll probably put these pages into Sprite’s nature journal.

Jimmie, I LOVE this!! Very cool. My girls would love it, and adding it to the nature journal is a fabulous idea! I could not get your link to work, but i was wondering, would this work with any “thin” type paper? I assume it would not work with regular printer type paper…thank you!

We did this activity last year but ours didn’t turn out quite so beautifully. I think our paper may have been ‘old’ or perhaps we just didn’t wait long enough …. anyway. Well done!

Neat! It would be difficult to find that kind of paper here. Hmm, but trying different kinds of colored paper might do — an experiment is brewing…

This is very neat! Would you mind telling me how long you had to leave the paper and leaves out in the sun? I’d like to add this idea to our new conifers unit we are working on.

Jimmie July 21, 2009 at 9:36 am: The directions for the nature print paper say to leave it in direct sun for two minutes. Then you drench the paper with water and let it dry.
