Welcome to the Charlotte Mason Carnival! We’ve got a Jam-Packed, Super Duper Carnival this week.

Have you ever wondered how to keep up with the Charlotte Mason Blog Carnivals? Well, if you contribute, Jamie will put you on the list and you’ll get notifications. Or you could subscribe to the RSS feed for the carnival. Right click that link I’ve given you and chose Copy. Then add that link into whatever feed reader you use. Voila! You’ll never miss another CM Carnival again. (And of course, that same procedure works for other carnivals too. Just look for the RSS feed on the carnival page.)

You can also add a CM Carnival widget to your blog. It will automatically update with the most recent carnival links.

Let’s get to the posts. There’s something for everyone here. So get ready to click!

General CM

Barb-AKA Harmony Art Mom– gives us her perspective as a longtime CM user in Charlotte Mason Gave Our Homeschool Wings.

Richele expounds on A Charlotte Mason Motto (or Maxim’s maxim).

Yours truly is highlighting Unit Studies and Charlotte Mason, a look at exactly why Miss Mason didn’t approve of unit studies.

Shirley Ann Vels considers The Richness of Charlotte Mason.

Lynn, who blogs at A Mother’s Journal is one of my new favorite bloggers! You are going to be amazed at her Narration Station. What a pretty way to introduce regular, written narration to her 11-year-old daughter.

Janet presents For the Children’s Sake: I am, I can, I ought, I will.

Shell delves into something we’re probably all thinking about at this “back to school” time of year –Curriculum planning: What’s it all for?

Katie tackles the socialization issue in Homeschooling Teens and the Socialization Factor.

Michelle Cannon presents Charlotte Mason: The Benefits to My Family posted at Holistic Homeschooler.

Artist Study, Picture Study, and Handicrafts

Elementary Student at Art GalleryJeanne shares CM Picture Study & Salvador Dalí .

Pauline offers us Handicraft: Ceramics.

I happened upon Amy’s delightful idea for making artist study a bit more special and encouraged her to share it at the carnival. I’m so glad she did! Read it at Charlotte Mason: Artist Tea.

Whenever we start a new artist study, I always check Kids Art Projects and Lessons at Ms. Julie’s Place first for ideas. For this carnival, Julie presents the artist Emanuel Leitze.

Nikki presents Nature and Art posted at Joy in the Journey.

Heather presents Artist Index posted at Maple Hill Academy. She says it’s an index to pictures for artist/picture study, mostly the Ambleside Online Yahoo picture groups.

Living Math

Geometry seems to be the theme this month in these fabulously practical posts. One of the areas where CM seems extremely hard to implement is in living math. These posts will set you on the right path.

Kid Tossing Toy DieYou know that all the angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees, but have you ever SEEN it in action? Sandwich in Wi gives us a great example for taking a mathematical rule and demonstrating it to our children in a concrete way at Heavenly Angles.

Fong uses that same idea in her triangle lapbook. (She’s the creative mom who made the blank periodic table chart I bought from Etsy.) Her lapbook is full of living math ideas!

If you’re working towards a Charlotte Mason approach to math, don’t miss Lori’s post Our first full week of living math. It’s a fabulous example of what math can and should be!

Heather presents Making Math Journals. We call ours a math notebook, but the concept is the same. Hers are super organized. Go get inspired.

Tammy Glaser presents Geometry, Charlotte Mason Style at Aut-2B-Home in Carolina.

Composer Study

Suzanne ‘s contribution is perfect for those who want to add composer study into their routine — A Simple Plan to Immediately Add Classical Music in your homeschool.

Nature Study

Barefoot boy (9-11 years) reading book in canoe by lake, low section, close-upIt seems that many of us are enjoying the last weeks of summer by spending times outdoors.

Cindy writes of Ending our Month Spent with Wildflowers, a very pretty post full of photographs!

sarah in the woods presents Nature Printing posted at The Forest Room.

Tammy shares her Nature Discoveries with us.

Jessica tells us her New Experiences in Nature.

Amber presents Frog and Toad Are Friends posted at The Mommy Earth.

Sherry presents The Development of a Nature Journal (Part 1) posted at Living and Learning.

Sydni is a first time contributor to the CM Carnival! Welcome, Sydni! She gives us a wonderful post in which nature study blends nicely into artist study — Sunflowers Through Nature and Art.

Rhonda’s post The Outdoor Classroom is a beautiful photograph that will inspire. While you’re over at her blog, be sure to view her other travel posts. Her family has toured some gorgeous national parks this summer — family time plus nature study all rolled into one.

Amber presents Creepy Crawly! — Annual Cicada posted at The Mommy Earth.

Shannon presents September Nature Study posted at Mountaineer Country.

Erin presents Eggciting news! posted at Delighting in His Richness.

I’m quite fascinated by Katie’s suggestions for Using Nature Study to Study all Areas of Science.

Boy (9-11 years) reading book in tent, focus on girl (5-7 years) smiling, portrait, close-upForeign Language

Barb-Harmony Art Mom presents The Easy Spanish-Charlotte Mason Style Learning posted at The Curriculum Choice.

Language Arts

Sue presents The Charlotte Mason Girl: Copywork using Charlotte Mason style posted at The Charlotte Mason Girl.

Elisabeth presents Speech Writing for the Young posted at Treasuring the Moments.

Ruby in Montreal presents Teaching Reading: In Support of Literature posted at CanHomeschool – Freehold2.

Keri presents Grammar a Difficult Study posted at Sunny Scholars.

Have you heard about Eeboo? I hadn’t until I read this review of a retail company written jointly by Barb and Brenda. Eeboo’s  products include things you could use for nature study, drawing, and language arts.

And that wraps up the Charlotte Mason blog carnival.  Thanks to all the writers who offered their great posts! And thanks to the readers for visiting.

Submit your blog article to the next edition using the carnival submission form.

By the way, I love comments! And I also like to see your smiling faces. So, if you’d like your personalized avatar beside your comment, you’ll need to sign up at Gravatar. It’s free, of course, and after you sign up, you’ll realize that many other blogs use Gravatar too.
