My Favorite Homeschooling Newsletters

by Jimmie on October 13, 2009

I love email newsletters. Maybe it’s because I don’t get junk mail here in China that I actually enjoy colorful messages in my inbox. It’s true; often they’re not too valuable, and I quickly hit delete. But sometimes newsletters have a hidden gem — a freebie or a really good deal or an inspiring idea.

I thought I’d share my favorite newsletters with you, the ones that usually get my clicks before I delete. Sign up for a few today. You can always unsubscribe later.

(I can’t guarantee that all of these companies won’t spam you or sell your email address. If that’s important to you, be sure to read their “fine print” when you sign up.)

Evan-Moor

Evan-Moor has two newsletters:

  1. Education Newsletter — practical and creative teaching materials. Enjoy downloadable lesson plan activities and ideas, teaching tips, and more!
  2. Promotions is your best resource to stay informed about the special discounts and promotions.

CurrClick

I can’t imagine you don’t know about CurrClick, but just in case……. CurrClick offers ebooks for instant download (I so love that instant part). Each week they offer a no-strings attached freebie. But if you’re like me, you’ll forget to check and miss something interesting. So, sign up for the newsletter to be reminded each week.

Homeschool Freebie of the Day

Homeschool Freebie of the Day has five freebies a week, most usually PDF books in the public domain, but sometimes audio stories or other books. Again, sign up to get a weekly email to remind you to get your freebies.

Dover Samplers

There are three different samplers from Dover. You can right click and save any worksheet, graphic, puzzle, coloring page, etc. from the samplers. Keep them organized in folders for future use.

  1. General Sampler
  2. Teacher Sampler
  3. Design Sampler

Amy Pak’s  Homeschool in the Woods

Right on her homepages you can sign up for the Hands-on Teaching Tips and a monthly newsletter. Her newsletters give you “secret” links to really cool unit studies with free printables.

Teacher Created Materials

The TCM newsletter keeps you up to date on FREE lessons and monthly activities. Again, they have great freebies, but getting that reminder helps you actually USE them.

Crafty Newsletters

Actually, once Sprite got her own email address, I switched these three subscriptions over to her account. She loves getting fresh ideas periodically. (By the way, I use Nutshell Mail to monitor each and every email message she receives.)

How to Draw It

This site is selling a drawing book, but many lessons are free to view. You can even get them sent via email in a regular newsletter.

Kids Craft Weekly

You can find past issues and sign up for the newsletter. Even though a lot of the crafts are too juvenile for her now, the newsletter will often give her an idea for a different craft.

The Toymaker

Archives and a sign up page to remind you of new printable crafts at the website.

What are your favorite newsletters? I’d love your suggestions.

Creativity Related (not really homeschool per se)

Creativity-Portal

Free twice-monthly newsletter mostly filled with links to fresh articles posted  on their site. Some of their things are new-agey, but other articles are quite interesting or inspiring. I always find at least one cool link from this newsletter, but I’m extremely interested in the arts and creativity.

Cool! I’m going to check these out. Well, I already get several of the homeschool ones, but not quite all, so I’ll go check them out!! You definitely hit my favorites too. I enjoy reading some of the Old Schoolhouse emails if they come when I have time.
