We’re studying Westward Expansion — the Oregon Trail, the Transcontinental Railroad, and the Gold Rush. And for the first time ever, I tied our artist study to our history studies.
And I’m departing from the traditional Charlotte Mason method of one artist per term. Instead, we’re looking at a variety of artists who painted the West.
Our first artist is George Catlin. Our art book had only 10 Catlin works, so it was a quick three week study. (We narrate a piece daily instead of weekly.)

Today we started artist #2 — Frederic Remington. His art includes sculpture as well, something we don’t often study.

Hi and welcome! I'm Jimmie and this is my online collage of our Charlotte Mason homeschool. Taking just a little more time to document our learning shortens the learning curve for other busy homeschool moms.
Feel free to browse around my posts and freebies. My aim is to bless each reader with something useful.

We live in Virginia and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has several pieces of Catlin’s work. I love the “old west” and his work is mesmorizing. Thanks for sharing your study!
This is a great study! I linked from my Google Reader.
