Creating with Flowers

by Jimmie on February 1, 2010

sprite cutting fresh flowersIn doing some blog organizing, I found this post from the fall of 2009 that never got published. Actually, all I had here were these photos of Sprite arranging flowers.

It’s dreary winter in China, so let’s enjoy some summertime flowers, why don’t we?

Back in the fall, I realized that with all our creative projects, Sprite had never arranged flowers before. So I bought her some of that green floral foam (does it have a fancy name that I’m not remembering?) and let her choose an assortment of fresh flowers. After giving her a few tips,  I set her loose to experiment and design.

We had to make do with a bowl from the kitchen because we couldn’t find a suitable option at the shops we visited. Even though the foam shows a bit, I think it’s a lovely arrangement.

If you’re living in dreary winter conditions, let this post remind you that spring — summer, even– WILL come again. There will be sunshine, and there will be flowers. And even short sleeves and sandals.

Lovely. Thanks for giving someone from the cold and frozen north of China some hope. Here’s to days without long john’s!

That is a wonderful arrangement. I wonder if I could find some of that green foam stuff :) We actually get lots of free flowers because we know Romani (the Gypsy language) and they are the ones selling flowers on the street. They are so excited we know their language that they start giving us things.

Lovely!
In South Africa we call that green foam ‘oasis’, but a manufacturer has cleverly called it “Green Stuff” ~ which I find quite funny!

Thanks for that ray of sunshine. We all tend to get “cabin fever” here in mid Canada about this time.

Thanks for sharing this spot of bright loveliness! I needed to see this. Sprite did a WONDERFUL job on arranging–much better than could do, I’m sure!

Sprite has blossomed as well, from a energetic little girl into a beautiful young lady. She has grown so much this past year, hasn’t she?

Sprite did a wonderful job! My daughter did this with a group… but that was quite a few years ago. So, I think maybe we should try it again! :-)

Sprite did a GREAT job of that arrangement! I’m actually a trained florist (you know in another time period – BC – before children!) and that is an amazing arrangement for a first time – almost good enough to sell! :o )

She has great height, it is even all the way around, and she used the fillers very effectively. It is a balanced, colorful, beautiful arrangement.

The green stuff is called Oasis and the only thing a florist would have done different is to hide the oasis with some moss so it looked like part of the arrangement – even the pros cheat! LOL!

Nothing like bringing a spot of cheer into the season. The greys, browns, and blacks are beautiful in their own way, especially when coated with the white snow, but come this time of year, I like to see some color! Thanks for sharing, and now maybe I can justify scraping together enough spare change to “spring” for my own bouquet for Anna Rose to arrange. It’s so easy to be creative with that wonderful green foam “stuff.” Love it!
