Happy Mother’s Day to my readers.
Sprite and my husband will give me Mother’s Day gifts today, but really I have all I could ask for.
Just being in America is a huge gift.
These are my favorite things and the best gifts I could receive:
(Yes, that’s my mom in her container herb garden.)
I’m soaking up every sensation, storing it all up for the drab days in China.

Jimmie,
The picture of the steeple made me tear up a bit, and the one of Sprite with her Grandma got me too. Thankful you are savoring every moment.

Sounds like a great mother’s day. Mine was very nice also.
Hi Jimmie- I’m so happy to hear you’re having such a wonderful time with your family. I know all too well how hard it is to be away from our parents! I’m curious, if you don’t mind me asking, how long will you guys be in China? Is this an indefinite job assignment? I believe you said you’ve been there since Sprite was three.

Beautiful!!! I love the herb garden. Wow, I can almost smell it through the screen. Your mom and Sprite look so happy together.
Honeysuckle is so fabulously aromatic, too.
I’m glad you are enjoying every moment, every sensation while you are here.

Jimmie –
I just recently discovered your blog – thru Squidoo, I think. I have been working my way thru your archives over the last few weeks and thought I’d chime in and tell you how absolutely fascinating I find your writing. I really enjoy your stories about living in China. The nuts and bolts of life there is so interesting – the food, the culture, how you buy books…
One question I had was about Christmas (I am up to December of 08). If only 1% of China celebrates Christmas, why are there so many decorations everywhere? Or did you just take pictures of the ones you found and they aren’t as common as I am thinking? Do the Chinese have a big gift-giving holiday that is similar? What is the predominant religion there – Buddhism?
Sorry to be so nosy! It’s just SO INTERESTING.
