Beautiful Feet Support Group

by Jimmie on July 22, 2010

We are going to be using Beautiful Feet again soon. The plan (and you know how plans are) is to begin BF Ancients in August.

Since there is no BF forum or support of any kind, I began a Yahoo Group for BF users. Please join us if you are a BF user or someone who wants more information about this literature based curriculum.

I’m pleased to say that Rea Berg, the owner of BF, and her son Josh who works for the BF company both have joined the Yahoo group. In addition there are several experienced BF users available to answer questions.

Why the switch?

We’ve used Winter Promise for American history. Before that we used Sonlight. I love them both. But I realize that I don’t need as much structure as those companies provide. I can wing it and make my own plans with a set of good books. But then again, a schedule is quite nice to have as a basic guide. BF is a nice middle ground. Their guides are complete but not overwhelming. There is plenty of room for adding books and for going off on tangents. And that’s exactly what we intend to do. We’ll use BF as a base, and add in selected books from the Winter Promise Ancients program.

Another factor is that I don’t want history to take up quite so much of our academic time. We need to leave more time for language arts and math. Of course, history is interwoven into those areas; nothing is studied in isolation. But it seems that in the past, history has had the tendency to overwhelm our studies.  Sprite wants to be a nurse, so this year I also want to spend quite a bit of time on a human body course (that I’m designing). If she really loves medicine, I want to be ready to prepare her in her high school years.

Hi Jimmie!

Wanted to pass on the versatile blogger award to you. Please collect it from FunSchooling!

What a neat idea to start a BF group! I’ve often wondered why they didn’t have one. All the best!

Hi Jimmie,
Silent lurker here, but now I am going to speak up! :)
I am going to put in a request too! I was able to speak with Rea at our convention this past weekend and share with her how she has blessed our family by introducing us to some rich beautiful literature. She has such a beautiful spirit.
I have used Early American history for primary grades and now I am looking forward to using the NEW California History guide!

We’re going to be using Winter Promise this year, but like you, I’ve realized I really don’t need that much structure. Sometimes it seems harder to de-structure it enough to suit me! I looked at BF, and just may go with that in the future, but for this year, I’m still excited about WP.

And I do have that BF History of the Horse to do at some point. I just have no idea when. :)

Hi Jimmie!

I’m no longer blogging @ Stepping Heavenward and haven’t been in here long time, but suddenly remembered that you exist today. Is that a funny way to put it? I had to Google you to find you, but I subscribed so that I don’t lose you again. :)

I’ve had a grand time exploring your blog today and catching up.

LOL, I am the opposite and really enjoy structure, so we switched to Sonlight. It has been one of our best years. I will enjoy watching your post about BF.

One of the many things I love about you, Jimmie, is that you are proactive. You see a need and then DO something about it!

I too tend to do my own thing and have been using Truthquest History to follow along through American History. We have just started the Civil War and hope to be finished with American History after this year. We will be learning about the human body through Jeannie Fulbright this year but look at BF History of Science for 7th grade before we get into the real heavy hitters of General and Physical Science.
Blessings

How wonderful!! Another homeschool mother sent me an e-mail about this as we have used BF for two years so far. I sent her reply and said “I wonder if this is Jimmie from China.” Our girls sent flats to China and you sent absolutely lovely pictures. The flats never arrived back in the states but the girls remember the pictures. I also see you all over the place at various lapbooking sites. Thank you soooo much for starting this group. Waiting for approval and looking forward to getting more ideas from all!!! Christina in CA
