I’m a very late adopter when it comes to StitchFix. I had heard about it, discounted it as not for me, and then finally signed up when I talked to Lara about it at a homeschool conference.
Even after signing up, filling out my profile, and making a Pinterest style board, it took me 20 weeks to actually order my first fix. And now I can’t wait for next month to roll around so I can splurge on another one!
What is StitchFix? Go here to read the skinny. That’s a referral link, by the way. That means if you get a fix, I get credit to spend on more clothes.
In short, I kept three of the five pieces from my very first fix from StitchFix.
I was so excited when I opened my box. The colors were really inviting. That was one of my main considerations as I don’t like dull and neutral colors that I often see in other people’s fixes. I prefer vivid, happy tones, and I repeated that request all over my Pinterest StitchFix board and in my personal profile.
My stylist listened! She also chose tops for me precisely based on what I said about my body shape. And she was right! The neckline details draw attention up, away from my pear shape bottom half and accentuate my small bust.
StitchFix Winner #1 Cassey Mesh Neckline Knit Top by Loveappella
Verdict: feminine and funky
Price: $48
I tried this on first and immediately loved it. It’s something I would have passed right by on a store rack, but it’s adorable! Pattern, color, shape, fabric — I love it all.
I’m a little worried about how well that mesh will wash though. I’m not a big laundry person. But the shirt appears to be worth any extra laundry attention I need to give it.
StitchFix Winner #2 Renesme Graphic Print Faux Wrap Dress by 41Hawthorn
Verdict: Gorgeous!
Price: $78
Wow wee! This dress fits like a dream. Most wrap dresses gape at the bust, but this one lays flat and comes up high —a no-fear kind of dress. I can bend and move without any wardrobe malfunctions.
I adore the colors too!
I was iffy about those 3/4 sleeves, but they really work with the whole dress.
The only downside is that the dress waist is about 2 inches above my own natural waist. My solution is to not wear the belt at all and remove the little belt loops. I do this with all my dresses because I’m tall. So it’s not a deal breaker for me by any means. This is just my norm.
Also the lining peeks out in the front (bottom hem). I don’t know if it’s supposed to do that, but it does. It doesn’t keep it from being a knockout dress, though.
StitchFix Winner #3 Adelina Lace Detail Knit Top by Market and Spruce
Verdict: feminine and slimming
Price: $54
Although I find black boring, the lace details on this shirt are lovely. I really wish this were in a red, purple, green, or blue. But the shape and style are so nice that I’m keeping it. Plus black is slimming and goes with anything.
So here are the tags for the three items I chose to keep. Next I’ll show the two pieces I chose to send back.
StitchFix Reject #1 Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee by Market and Spruce
Verdict: Too big; too boxy
Price: $44
Although the color of this shirt was the first thing that attracted me to it, as soon as I picked it up, I had a feeling it might not work. It’s super boxy. The shape is just too formless and grandma-ish.
It’s odd because I saw this same top all over Pinterest, and it looks great on other women. But on me, it’s so blah! Plus you can tell by looking at where the shoulder seams land on me that it’s simply too large. It’s a medium, the same size and brand of the black lacy top, but this one is a totally different shape. I really wanted to like it for the color and fabric, but the shape was ugly on me, and the size was not right.
StitchFix Reject #2 Samara Printed Maxi Skirt by Papermoon
Verdict: Too big
Price: $58
This maxi skirt is a size large, and I really needed a medium for this particular item. It was too loose and hung low on my hips.
I found it odd that the stylist would put both the clingy wrap dress and this loose maxi skirt in my fix because there’s no way a person could wear both of these. The size difference was way too great. But since it was my first fix, I guess there was a measure of trial and error.
The pattern was a bit scary for my larger bottom half, but I probably would have kept it if it were a size smaller. I only have two maxi skirts, and they are such a wonderful wardrobe staple. I have plenty of solid tops to wear with it. But it was just too baggy.
I am also not a huge fan of the runching on the side waistband. Why add extra volume and lumps to an area every woman wants to make smaller?
It was easy to return the skirt and green top. All I had to do was pop them into the pre-paid plastic envelope, seal it shut, and put it in my mailbox for USPS pickup.
In all, it was a very fun experience to get my first fix. I love the three pieces I got, and I will absolutely get another StitchFix in the future.
The photos of me were taken by Greg Campbell, a Memphis photographer. If you need corporate photography or event photography, look him up.

You look great in the items you chose! I’ve been reading Stitch Fix reviews for a long time but still haven’t taken the plunge. I’m one who likes shopping so I don’t mind doing my own searching, but on the other hand, I’m homeschooling four kids with a big age span and we’re about to start a busy school year, so maybe Stitch Fix will make more sense for me this year.

Wish we had something similar here. Shopping is the bane of my existence and I have absolutely no idea when it comes to clothes. Reentering the workforce in two or three years time will be a nightmare in that regard alone. Love what you kept – especially numbers 2 and 3.

Like everyone else I have read and read so many “loves” of StitchFix but just have never done more than create an account. (I, like you, have done everything EXCEPT order a Fix.)
Maybe I will finally do it?!?!
Also, you look beautiful in everything. Seriously. Also also, I think a pool in the background makes every photo better. Also also also, you make me happy.

Well, if you can afford the splurge, I say GO FOR IT. It’s really FUN. And that’s part of the experience. It’s more than just getting new clothes.

That wrap dress looks amazing on you! You got a pretty good fix!
