We had our nature walk Tuesday afternoon. It was mainly plants and bugs again since we stayed in our apartment complex. But we were pleased to identify a tree — the hornbeam also called blue beech. Actually, I think it is the Chinese beech (imagine that!). But I can’t find a lot about the Chinese beech online.
Our particular tree looked like a “tiger” — the bark’s ridges were orange!
Sprite doesn’t like to do her nature journal during the nature walk. She’s too busy catching butterflies! So we’re doing them at home on regular copy paper and putting them in a notebook with sleeves.
Do you let your children go out like ragamuffins? I do! But in China, if you have clothes that are not torn and are clean, you’re okay. The standards are quite different. So no one here would think anything of her pink head scarf, blue shirt, black pants, and red socks!
I’m determined to get some field guides while I am in America this fall. We are so clueless and I hate not having reference materials!
