I already blogged about Sketch Tuesday, and I hope that many of you will participate in next week’s theme — a castle or something in a castle.
If you’re looking for another gentle nudge to adding art and sketching into your homeschool routine, I suggest the Art for Homeschool monthly (whoops! Terry corrected me in a comment below) contests.
The May 1 deadline is open for most any 2 dimensional medium, and the theme is My Favorite Things. Dare I “let the cat out of the bag” and share Sprite’s submission?
Go to Art for Homeschool for more information.

Awww…… My kids stuff wouldn’t compare, unless they have a preschool category. She did a great job!

What a great way to create art – with a theme and shared with others. I love it! At our house my son has been working on his first Think! challenge (http://kidswhothink.blogspot.com). It’s also something with a theme, you send in pictures of your completed work, and everyone gets to see all the submissions. It’s an inspirational approach, I think. I’m sure we’ll enjoy the same for the art contest. Thanks for passing it on!

What a wonderful collage! I love the cats’ expressions! Sprite has a wonderful way of presenting her thoughts and feelings through her art.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Sprite becomes a child book illustrator. She dares to have 3 x 1/2 a cat surrounding her firm statement. Well done!
My daughter says: ‘Great! Does Sprite knows Ramona’s cat Picky-Picky? The ginger cat looks like Picky-Picky’.

Thanks for spreading the word about the online homeschool art show. Awards for the first show will be announced May 15. Other shows will be in August, November and February. I am also looking for other ways for homeschool kids to share their artwork. I am open to any ideas.

Sprite’s art is always fabulous!!! She really does have a gift.
I’ll have to check out the contest. Mackenzie’s always doodling something. Maybe she could enter if she’d actually finish something. LOL

why enter?! I think Sprite pretty much has it sealed…

Love your blog. It looks like you all have so much fun with your projects.
Our baby is from China and I have bookmarked all your great ideas for teaching her about China.
She is the first child we are homeschooling alone and it is interesting to see you working with one child also. That sounds silly that that is our challenge, but after homeschooling the other 6 with playmates it is very different.
Thanks for sharing your ideas, not that I would ever do half of them, but even if I did half that would be a pretty full day 🙂

Sprite has such creative talent! I’m so glad you have encouraged that in her. I noticed that she always looks happy & content in your photos. There is nothing like creating a piece of art. I love art, especially Impressionism. My daughter on the other hand, has not shown a preference. For her birthday, we purchased an easel, lots of paint/pastels, canvases, brushes, apron, etc. Art is something she absolutely loves…especially painting. We have some wonderful masterpieces around here!
I had photos of art printed at Walgreens and we use those for our study or art and artists. We have 8 different artists right now and we use this form I created to learn a little about art and recreate a specific piece art she likes: http://www.hslaunch.com/mypage/downloader.php?file=userfiles/0/36444959867.pdf&id=1288
