What is StitchFix? Go here to read the skinny. That’s a referral link, by the way. That means if you get a fix, I get credit to spend on more clothes.
I realize that it’s fall, but I specifically told my stylist to hold off on long sleeves, sweaters, etc. as it’s still pretty hot in Memphis. So if it’s already cool where you are, realize that you can specify what kind of clothes you want for your fix. I’ve read a lot of reviews of StitchFix, and I think that communicating with your stylist is key. If you give them nothing to work with, your fix is really a guess on their part. I asked for jeans, no fall clothes, and something red. And I got great options. All but one piece thrilled me. This was also my second fix, and I actually added photos of myself in my first fix to my Pinterest style board so my stylist Shelby could see exactly how the clothes fit me.
I’ve already scheduled a fix to be delivered in November, and I’ve asked for more jeans/pants and sweaters. The best part about getting all these gorgeous clothes is that I spent no time in stores to pick them out. My stylist did that for me! And instead, I can spend that time writing this blog post — something far more enjoyable for me.
StitchFix Winners #1 & #2
Freida Skinny Jean by Mavi & Fulham Embroidery Detail Knit Top by RD Style
Freida Skinny Jean by Mavi
Verdict: Hot Mamma! Awesome. JUST what I anticipated.
Skinny jeans? Yes! I’m 45 and rocking the skinny jeans. It’s like I’m 17 again or something! So fun. I’m wearing them in all of the photos in this post.
I was pretty blown away that someone could mail me jeans that fit this well based on my measurements, some photos, and my preferences. That’s the StitchFix magic, folks. I’ve spent hours in malls and fitting rooms to leave without a decent pair of jeans. This was insanely easy. I am planning on asking for jeans in more fixes and taking my current jeans to GoodWill one by one as I replace them with better jeans.
What makes them better?
- The fit — no back gap in the waistband and long enough. The waist hits me in the perfect spot — midrise.
- The fabric — a medium weight denim with just the right amount of stretch to it. These do not get stretched out a full size larger after you wear them for a day like my cheaper jeans.
- The color — look at that almost black, dark navy. Very flattering for me!
Fulham Embroidery Detail Knit Top by RD Style
Verdict: so cute!
I think this top is so fun! And it’s like an illusion of some sort. With all that shoulder and back showing, I was surprised to know I can still wear a strapped (t-back) bra with it! The straps don’t show! Yay!
The cotton is extremely soft and the colors are flattering. This is going to get a lot of wear.
I am wearing it in this Instagram pic.
StitchFix Winner #3 Covelin Cut Out Back Blouse by Fun2Fun
Hello, red! I love red. I actually went through a five year phase where I only wore red, pink and purple. Although I wear more than red now, I still have a soft spot for the color. It’s simply a winning hue for a blonde. And it speaks of joy and confidence! The fun details make it flirty and sophisticated without being trashy. I’d probably want one of these in about a dozen colors.
StitchFix Winner #4 Montgomery Chevron Cross-Front Top by Pixley
Verdict: super soft, flattering fit, great color
This style is a great bust enhancer while showing off a slim waist. The color is a favorite! It feels like wearing a t-shirt, but it looks like you’re wearing something much nicer. This is easy to dress up with a skirt. And even though I’m small busted, I have no fear of gaps; the fit is great.
StitchFix Reject #1 Filbert Abstract Striped Henley Blouse by 41Hawthorn
Verdict: too big; uncomfortable fabric
This was the only piece I didn’t like. If it were in a size small, I may have wanted it, but it was just too boxy in the arms/bust area. It would fit much better on a busty person.
I like the design and color, but the fabric was an immediate no for me. It feels like a nylon tent. As soon as I pulled it over my head, I got hot. It doesn’t breathe, and I actually felt a little claustrophobic with it on. My daughter’s face of disgust was enough to put the final nail in the coffin. She said it looked “old lady.”
Looking at this photo, though, it is an attractive shirt (regardless of what Emma says).
However, I didn’t return it. StitchFix offers a 25% discount if you buy all 5 pieces in your fix. That discount was more than the cost of this piece, so it was cheaper to keep it than send it back. So I plan on adding it to my pile at a clothing swap I’m attending in October. I’m sure there’s someone who will look great in this piece.
The photos of me were taken by Greg Campbell, a Memphis photographer. If you need corporate photography or event photography, look him up.
