I am a fan of Barb’s Sketch Tuesday. It’s so simple, but simple usually works.
Each week she gives a broad topic for a sketch. You send her your scanned (or photographed) sketches, and she compiles them into a slideshow. This week’s theme was something from a first aid kit. (Mine on left; Sprite’s on right.)
There are no grades, no awards, just a gentle nudge in the right direction to keep drawing. Thanks, Barb!
I find that having her assign us a topic really keeps us on track with consistently drawing. So once you’ve done the assignments in Drawing With Children, Sketch Tuesday is a great weekly project. It takes only minutes, and we do it together as a mother daughter activity.

Once again, Jimmie, you have reminded me to open up a different outlet for our brains. I have been lurking around Daisy Yellow’s site and have collected a vast array of objects/subjects to inspire us but I rarely sit down with the kids and endeavor to create. My excuse is the rest of the household duties and a 3 year old who still takes puddles of afternoon naps. (I love those naps and I refuse to let go of the warm cuddliness that I selfishly relish each afternoon). BUT, I really have to get back to Drawing with Children and a regularly planned time frame for their benefit. Thanks again.
BTW, we’re off to Greece this weekend and should have plenty of opportunities to sketch and photograph.

We really enjoyed taking part too! It was a joy to see what everyone else contributed in the slide show. We’re already giving thought to this week’s topic … a little research and some careful observation in needed for this sketch.

Thanks Jimmie for the kind words and encouragement. I keep thinking I am going to run out of topics but each week we come up with something to sketch in our journals. I love that I just put out the suggestion for the topic and everyone answers the problem with their own solution. So much creativity out there…it inspires me.
I appreciate your support of Sketch Tuesday…thanks for spreading the word.
