Would You Mark this Wrong?

illustrated math problem
illustrated math

I think it was the word illustrate that got Sprite. She sincerely thought this was what the question wanted her to do. And I guess on one level, she actually did follow the directions.

I asked her why a math test would want her to draw faces on the numbers. She agreed, “Yeah, I thought it was strange, but I did what they asked me to do. I illustrated it.”

Yet another reason to take these tests every now and then.

What a cute story. An innocent “mistake” to be sure. At least she answered the best she could think to.

Oh sweet! I sometimes wonder if my girls would cope with external exams someday … There really isn’t a need to make our children take tests when we homeschool, except maths and spelling, but it does show us what skills we need to teach our children.

That was sweet! I wouldn’t have had the heart to mark it wrong!! I LOVED the way she illustrated it. For the 3 to love the 4 and make two babies would be very special indeed in China! LOL! I think that will be a keeper, huh? :o) – Deedee

    Jimmie,

I love Sprite’s illustration! It’s probably what I would have done when I was her age too [and I wasn’t homeschooled at that age]. I’d definitely put that one aside as a keeper for future generations.

    Blessings,

How sweet is that? I wouldn’t mark it “wrong” but I would show her what that question means and how to “illustrate” so she knew what to do in the future– but I’m sure you’ve done that already!

Here, here – not only should she receive full credit, perhaps EXTRA credit is in order. Is that a happy heart I saw above the 4 and 3? Adorable. It reminds my of when my youngest in first grade didn’t understand his assignment to alphabetize the five words in the list. By the time I got back he had alphabetized all of the letters perfectly within each word!

LOL, my 11 1/2 y.o.g. saw me laughing and asked what was so funny, so I covered the text of your post, showed her the pic, and asked her what *she* thought was supposed to be done. She guessed just about everything imaginable to do that had nothing to do with drawing pictures, despite the wording of the question! (And she’s my artist, too!) She honestly had no clue what to do with it, either.

I think that answer is just TOO cute! Love the little baby “12” there…. 😀
